Ariel Gordon Maffei launched her eponymous collection in 2009. After graduating summa cumlaude from UCLA with a BA in English and Italian, Ariel produced red carpets events in Hollywood as a publicist. She began designing jewelry as an escape from the hectic pace of the PR world. When she decided to pursue jewelry design professionally, Ariel moved to San Francisco to learn the craft of metalsmithing and stone setting at the renowned Revere Academy. At Revere, she learned to translate her conceptual designs into timeless and unique jewelry pieces. After returning to Los Angeles, she further honed her design skills with famed-jewelry designer Maya Brenner.
With an eye for delicate details, Ariel designs her collection to be subtle and chic, lived in and layered. Her vision is to create jewelry that can transition well and be a wardrobe staple, like a favorite pair of jeans or a trusted handbag—jewelry that is meant to be worn daily. AGJ consists of highly personal pieces designed to be worn together and collected over time since Ariel often finds herself wearing the same jewels for months. All of the jewelry that she wears is symbolic of a treasured moment in her life. She wants AGJ pieces to be an extension of the woman wearing them, tangible symbols of those she holds dear to her heart, or a happy occasion in her life. The collection focuses on both quality and accessibility, and is designed to make wearers feel effortlessly stylish.
